Safety Tips

Memorize your PIN number
and do not keep it written

 ATMs

  • Try to visit ATMs during daylight hours, avoid late night and early mornings. If withdrawing significant amounts, do bring someone with you.
  • Memorize the PIN number or key that will give you access to the ATM, never write it on the back of the card or elsewhere.
  • Never give your PIN, or other security keys to strangers, neither type it on their presence, even though they identify themselves as bank employees.
  • When you enter your PIN or security key, cover the keyboard with your body or hand so that no one can see it, be careful.
  • No bank official is authorized to request any information such as access keys.
  • The BCR makes no cleaning, checking or validation of credit or debit cards in a personalized way.
  • Always remember to log out and remove your card.
  • If you notice something strange inside or outside an ATM, please call a dully identified official, or contact the local authorities.
  • Remember that your PIN or access key for the ATM is for personal use.

 Virtual Office

  • Never give strangers your access key to the online branch. Avoid accessing these sites in unsafe places.
  • Remember your access key virtual office is for personal use.
  • Remember that  card numbers, PIN and access key for online branch are for personal use.
  • Keep your Dynamic Key card in a safe place.
  • Do not make photocopies of your Dynamic Key card.
  • Do not give your Dynamic Key card to strangers or persons that identify themselves as bank officials.
  • Do not reveal the numbers of the cells to strangers or people who identify themselves as bank officials.
  • The Banco de Costa Rica does NOT send emails to customers requesting any personal data or information such as keys.

 Cards

  • Remember your cards and PIN number is for personal use.
  • Do not give your card to anyone inside or outside an ATM. Officials are not allowed to request it.
  • The BCR makes no review or validation of credit or debit cards in a personalized way.
  • Try to travel with little cash and with just the necessary cards to make your purchases.
  • If you go shopping, keep an eye on your credit or debit card.
