Updates and Patches
Vulnerabilities are constantly discovered
in computer systems. In the same way, updates are made to correct them.
These weaknesses are regularly exploited by hackers to try to access
other computer systems.
Software vendors offer corrections to
such vulnerabilities under the name of patches and/or updates. They are usually available on their
websites and can be automatically downloaded.
One example is Microsoft, which on page
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com automatically validates equipment
patch level and provides download service.

Antivirus Software Installation
A computer virus is defined as a
malicious program that can damage software and/or hardware of your PC. Perhaps
your computer has Antivirus software installed; however, to be effective,
it must be constantly updated. If you have questions regarding software
management and updating, please read the Help function included.
There are several Antivirus products from
which you can choose, as McAfee, Symantec (Norton) and Sophos, etc.
You can also get a free version of
Antivirus software. You can use the criterion of “free anti-virus” from
the Google website for a list of the available ones and choose one of
them.

Use of Personal Firewall
Personal Firewall is a program that helps
protect your computer and its contents against unauthorized access by
outsiders in Internet.
When properly configured, it stops all
unauthorized traffic to and from your PC.
There are several options of personal
Firewall to use. Commercial ones are:
- Zone Labs: www.zonelabs.com
- Symantec: www.symantec.com

Proper use of passwords and keys
Passwords are the key to your online
accounts information, online shopping accounts and many other online
activities. Your BCR Internet password and your Dynamic Key card allow
you to access your banking accounts and make transfers. For this reason, your password should
be unique and well protected.
- Keep your passwords secret, never tell anyone or write them
down in visible or easily access places, such as screens or
keyboards, do not generate any documents with names as banking keys,
passwords, etc.
- Do not record or store your password, memorize it. If you
really need to write your passwords, use a coding system and invert
some of the letters.
- Do not use passwords that are easily guessed such as your
name, date of birth, phone numbers, names of pets and similar ones.
- Periodically change your password.

Use of Anti-Spyware Programs
Spyware is a term used for programs that
can stay on your PC to monitor and record the activities you while
navigating the Internet. The result of this monitoring can be used for
commercial or malicious purposes, for example to extract personal
information you have entered: such as passwords, telephone numbers,
credit card numbers and bank accounts keys.
Spyware is often loaded on computers
without user consent and can form part of a free download of another
service, for example, a service which claims to improve your PC performance.
To remove the Spyware software that might
be installed in your computer, we recommend you install Anti-Spyware
software.
The anti-spyware security programs that
are currently available include McAfee, Spybot
Search and Destroy, AdAware, Spyware
Eliminator, Spyware Doctor and Microsoft Windows Defender. Our
recommendation is to install and use an Anti-Spyware product with a good
reputation.
