Maximum amount of credit to business or economic interest group

The Ley del Sistema Financiero (Financial System Act) provides that the maximum any financial institution may place for a company or economic interest group will be 20% of its capital.

The Banco de Costa Rica has the highest capital of the country: $150 million.

However, our internal rules of banking prudence have established credit maximum at 7% of that capital. Therefore, the maximum loan is currently about $11.0 million.

For higher credits, we have in several cases adopted the figure of the agent bank where the BCR syndicate the total credit with other financial institutions and the client does meet their total financing needs.

Allocation of Interest rate

BCR allocates the percentage rates depending on the operation risk. This risk is determined based on the customer's financial information, and according to other parameters, like the guaranty's nature, the company's commercial risk, etc.

The rate for credits in Dollars are based on the current Prime Rate (PR), and for Colones , on the Passive Basic Rate (TBP, Spanish abbreviation of Tasa Basica Pasiva).

According to these concepts, we provide the rate range tables, depending on the risk levels.
