Know your Card

Managing your BCR card wisely:

Keep adequate managing of expenses and keep all your Credit Card purchase receipts.  Thus, you could better control your expenses and verify purchase information in your statement of account. 

Schedule your credit card payment  within your monthly expenses, so that you can comply with due payment dates.

Pay your credit card on due date included in your statement of account to avoid paying delay charges.

Responsibly use your credit card to strengthen your financial future, solely charge your credit card with expenses you will be able to pay later.   

Advice on Security:

In the event that you lose your Credit or Debit Card, immediately inform our Customer Service Department calling us at: (506) 2284-66-00

Does not ever send personal financial information through electronic mail.

Reject the electronic message or mail which requests your personal financial information. 

Does not ever provide any personal information about  bank accounts or credit, debit cards to unknown people.

Advice on paying with your BCR cards

Keep your purchase receipts after traveling so that you can compare them against your statement of account.

Avoid misplacing and do not stop keeping an eye on your card while shopping.

Advice when using your BCR Card at ATM’s

When making withdrawals.  Discretely count your money and does not leave receipts with information at ATM booths. 

Make sure that you take your card after the transaction at ATM booth and wait until the screen goes back to start.   If your card is kept by the machine,  immediately contact the Bank and follow instructions.

Avoid distractions while making a transaction. An instant slip could be an ideal moment to misuse your information. 

Use ATMs located in closed locations with security cameras and electronic closure devices. 

 


When using your BCR card abroad

Before traveling, get information on telephone numbers to block cards while abroad and to urgently request replacement in the event of emergency.

Contact our Customer Service Department at Tel. (506) 2284-6600 and provide the following information:  destination country, date of entrance and exit of Costa Rica.  Thus, we shall guarantee a proper functioning of Cards while traveling.

Avoid losing your purchase receipts so that at your return to the country, you could match them with your Statement of Account. 

Avoid leaving your card unattended  while shopping abroad. 

Never does write your PINs  in the credit card or in any document that you keep in your wallet.

Use your password with difficult deduction number combinations. Avoid  date of birth, address numbers, continuous numbers, etc. And  avoid sharing your PIN with third parties. 

Verify that your ATMs PINs  are active.

Important terms you must know:

Cash advance: Our BCR card clients may obtain cash using their credit or debit cards in our Branches or ATM’s.  Cash advance shall be deducted from credit type available or his bank account.

Financing Charges: it is the total cost of the loan in colones, it includes interests, service and transaction charges as well as other  awarded to the loan.

Interest Charges: It is the price that you pay to Banco de Costa Rica for usage of borrowed money.    Interest is collected as percentage on indebted balance. Such percentage may vary depending on the card type.

Card Issuer: An issuer is the Financial Institution which provides credit to a consumer through a Card.

Debit Card:  Are cards used for payment which provide an alternative to cash and checks permitting the user access to bank accounts from any ATM and are accepted in the majority of point of sales.

Automatic Teller Machines (ATM): for cardholder bank transactions at any place at any time.  When using your ATM card, customers may withdraw funds from checking or savings accounts.

Credit Limit: Maximum amount to borrow when using your credit card.

Credit Card: Payment card which implies recurrent credit type granted to client, from an issuer Bank.

Overdraft: It occurs when client exceeds money amount that was granted as per his credit type.
